Rural Water Family, As many have heard, we sadly lost one of our own, Mr. Ronald West, this past Sunday, October 30, 2016. Ronnie leaves behind his wife of 50 years and a beloved family. Our deepest prayers and condolences go out to all of them. At NCRWA, we also sit paralyzed by the loss of an industry icon, a loyal team member, and a dear friend. Ronnie worked in our industry for 49 years with the last 7 of those at the North Carolina Rural Water Association (NCRWA). He was recognized and respected nationally for his knowledge and passion for backflow and cross connection (BFCC). As part of the original BFCC ORCs in the state and nation, Ronnie helped write the book, literally, on this critical area of our industry. Anyone having a conversation with him on the topic would walk away with an improved understanding of BFCC. It was no doubt that Ronnie West cared about public health to his core. Over his career, Ronnie taught thousands of students in BFCC, including me. As the greenest of any of his students on the topic, I will never forget the perplexing feeling of trying to learn BFCC from scratch and the gentleness of his teaching style. But make no mistake, he let me know that he would not accept mediocre if I wanted to pass his class. He expected every student to be competent when they left his class. I will always respect him for it. We will miss Ronnie and his contagious smile in the classroom, the wetlab, and at staff meetings. Please, join the Rural Water Family as we pay our respects at Ronnie's visitation and funeral. The details are below. If you have an upcoming class with Ronnie, please stay tuned to our website for details about how you might be affected.
