Spray crews applying a new protective lining to a five-mile stretch of Metropolitan Water District of Southern California Etiwanda Pipeline were already working overtime when the rain came. The deluge erased a drought, and soon, news came that the State Water Project would release all the water the District had applied to receive. The Etiwanda Pipeline needed to return to service ASAP. I had the pleasure of working with the owner of this tank in 2011 when it was built in Cape Canaveral, FL and recently when they decided to give it a face lift after 13 years of service. Relationships truly do matter in sales, and quality service leads to repeat business with clients. The tank had an existing inorganic finish coat that was a concern for the owner as it was adjacent to a major roadway. After careful analysis and adhesion testing, we determined the best course of action was to remove the IO Finish down to the IO Zinc primer by use of ultra high pressure water jetting equipment. A coat of Carbozinc 859, followed by a stripe and full coat of Carboguard 890 and a full finish coat of Carbothane 134HG were applied to provide a high gloss finish to make this tank shine for the surrounding community to see as they commute past the site. Modern fire events are hotter and release more toxic smoke than in the past.
